In an effort to let you know that you are not alone (as many of us feel as adoptees), I wanted to share this with you. Due to the taboo of "adoption" over the years and the lack of communication about it there are many people who are in the exact same boat as you may find yourself.....with missing or little information. Unfortunately, this is common. It is sad, but true - we don't know where we come from or have had valuable information taken or hidden from us. It was pretty epidemic back in the 50's, 60's and 70's. The adoption laws didn't change until 1973 when there was legislation passed to laws on what information was to be put on original birth certificates. Until then, there were many people with "false" information (including myself). This chart graphs the number of adoptions that took place in the United States and was created by The American Adoption Congress.
