My name is Carla Mathy and I am an adoptee who found their biological family. It took me 5 years of researching in every spare minute of my time. Finding the answers as to who and where I came from became my mission. I was searching for "my truth." I believe the truth of "who we are" is a most precious gift both to give and receive.
I had been told throughout my life there was no known information surrounding my adoption. I believed this. One day I was called to my parent's house and given my original birth certificate on my 40th birthday. I was stunned, amazed and in utter disbelief. I had already made peace with the idea of having no information, no family, no nothing...... After receiving this information I decided not to squander this opportunity and took it to a private investigator. He came back and said that this was the first case in thirty years he could not find a single thing on - nothing.
I had spent the following years passing what information I had on to countless search angels and more private investigators. I had taken 4 DNA tests on three different sites. I created profiles and joined every website out there for adoptees and adoption research. I brought in DNA experts after I had DNA results (which were all far from good matches). I requested non-identifying information from two states (one birth- California, one adoption - Illinois). I was running in circles and getting nowhere. After having no luck I painfully realized that if anyone was going to solve my case it was going to be me. (For only ONE reason....nobody is going to want it as badly as I do). I learned how to work with DNA, genealogy and became a proficient researcher utilizing the vast wells of information available. In the meantime I was solving other people's cases successfully before I even solved my own case. I couldn't stop thinking about the hundreds of thousands of people out there just like me with no answers. My last attempt was requesting assistance from the t.v. show Long Lost Family and they took my case. They had my DNA information and admin rights to my ancestry account for 8 months and they couldn't help me.
After this "blow" and at the end of the 5 year mark I did end up finding my answers by sheer determination and knowledge. I kept working my case, building trees, networking my information, etc. The universe decided to hand me a tiny dose of luck. (This is always a welcome gift). I am most grateful for the TRUTH, this journey, life lesson and opportunity to help others with my knowledge. Every soul has the "right" to know where they come from. This is an ultimate truth and I am here to help you find yours. This is my job and I love it. I have been helping other people search for missing and lost family ever since. I look forward to helping you.
